FAQs

Is there a difference between Perfume and Cologne?

It’s common in the modern-day beauty industry to associate the term “perfume” with women and “cologne” with men. Based on our understanding of the history of perfumery, we refer to all scents in our collection as perfume. Cologne historically refers to the amount of top notes, specifically citrus, that are in a perfume. Cologne is one type of perfume. The perfume industry has created this gender-specific terminology and narrative as a way to market more heavily to men and women. We, on the other hand, welcome all to the experience of any perfume.

How are your perfumes made?

Founder and perfume designer Molly Ray creates her perfumes which are typically inspired by experiences of travel, colors, art, and even food and wine. The process includes developing a custom formula balancing, blending, and wear-testing each design before it is thoughtfully named, bottled and packaged.

Where do you source your ingredients?

We source our vendors as often as possible from our production space in the Pacific Northwest. Many perfume oils and ingredients are produced and procured from vendors based elsewhere and we are always striving to purchase as locally as possible.  We also look for opportunities to support small businesses in our supply chain, particularly with other small brands and producers that are minority and/or woman owned. Occasionally, some perfume notes are purchased from producers in France, sourced during Molly’s studies at the Grasse Institute of Perfumery in Grasse.

We know how important it is to understand where and from whom materials and ingredients are sourced, so care is taken to understand as much information about our vendor supply chain. Sustainable procurement is a journey. We strive to balance quality and sustainability as we continually search for the best options in terms of environmental and social impact.
